Paste Project

The Idea

I’ve noticed a trend in Portrait Photography where often a subject is photographed in the woods/nature in an expressive way. I’ve noticed this trend on Tumblr and other photo posting blog websites.

I wanted to do a project that poked a little bit of fun at this, creatively joined in with and also got people involved in it in a different way - as a collaboration. So I came up with the paste project.

The idea is that I post photographs of different backgrounds within the woods and nature, some with people shapes cut out, and some without.  I then allow you to download the images, and literally insert yourself/a subject into the picture.

This can be done with a photo editing program (it doesn’t have to be perfect) or in any creative way you like.  You could print the photo and cut and paste into it and scan it again.  Even just provoking the imagination of others to see themselves or someone they like within the photo is the main idea.

Mostly I’m interested to see the results I receive.  Will you send me pictures of yourself included? Drawings? Famous faces? Family?

I am then going to publish the pictures I receive on Tumblr as I receive them (crediting the artist involved).  I am going to complete the project in roughly a years time and hopefully be able to exhibit and/or publish the images in an art book.
